Windows 10 reaches a major milestone: It now runs on over half of the world’s personal computers.

Posted on September 11, 2019

Like it or not, the future of Windows computers lies in Windows 10.

After all, Windows 7 is scheduled to officially be abandoned by Microsoft in January 2020.

Windows 8.1 will be around for a couple years longer but it’s scheduled to be abandoned as well in January 2023.

Windows 10 has been slowly increasing its foothold in the marketplace for a while now, and according to the latest stats from NetMarketShare it’s now running on over half (50.99%) of all the world’s personal computers.

Heads-Up: These Windows 7 games will stop working in January

Posted on July 10, 2019

Do you still use a Windows 7 PC to play Microsoft’s popular Internet-based games?

If so, I’m afraid you’ll no longer be able to play them after January rolls around.

Microsoft has just announced they’ll be shutting down their Windows 7 Internet Games servers on January 22, 2020.

That means the following games will stop working on that day: [Read more…]

Q&A: Is Microsoft really going to stop supporting Windows 7 in January?

Posted on April 24, 2019

Question from Darlene G.: I keep receiving a notification on my computer saying Microsoft is going to stop supporting Windows 7 in January.

I really like Windows 7 and I hate the thought of having to upgrade to Windows 10!

Is this really true or is it a scam?

I’ve learned from reading your blog that a lot of scams are spread by notifications like this.

Heads up: That ‘Time to Shift!’ notice from Microsoft that’s making the rounds is NOT a hoax.

Posted on March 1, 2019

Many of the posts I publish on this blog are warnings about scams and hoaxes that happen to be making the rounds at the time.

Well, this post is sort of the opposite of those “Scam Alert” posts.

I’ve had several people message me to ask whether the “Time to Shift” notices from Microsoft are real or if they’re a hoax.

If you haven’t seen one of these notices yet, you surely will before long. The wording can vary slightly, but they typically read something like this: [Read more…]

Q&A: Why is the D: drive on my refurbished computer already full?

Posted on August 20, 2018

Question from Wanda:  Rick, I just bought a refurbished computer with Windows 7 Home Premium on it.

In case you’re wondering why I bought a refurbished machine, it’s because I hate Windows 8 and Windows 10 so I decided to by a refurbished PC in order to get Windows 7.

LOL You probably think I’m crazy, but that’s why.

Anyway, this machine is showing two hard drives in Windows Explorer, a C: drive and a D: drive.

When they refurbished this computer they supposedly reinstalled Windows from scratch. I haven’t put anything at all on the D: drive, yet the Windows Explorer shows it as being full with hardly any free space left.

I can’t open that D: drive to see what’s in it making be think it might have a virus.

Is it possible for the equivalent of a brand new computer to have a virus that’s filling up the hard drive? My Norton isn’t finding anything.

Any help you can provide will be much appreciated. Thanks.
