How to quickly eliminate Facebook’s most irritating annoyances

Posted on March 21, 2023

Do you use Facebook on a laptop or desktop computer?

If so, you’re probably familiar with one or more of these common annoyances:

  • You keep seeing the same ads over and over again, many (or even most) of which might even be scams
  • Political posts (and the arguments they generate) get your blood boiling
  • You receive an important message from someone who isn’t on your friends list but Facebook hides it from you by placing it in the “New Message Requests” folder
  • One of your Facebook friends “unfriends” you but you don’t find out about it until much later because Facebook didn’t let you know that your friend had unfriended you

All of these annoyances (and many more) have irritated me at one time or another, and I’m guessing they’ve irritated you as well.  [Read more…]

How to disable autoplaying videos on ALL sites with Chrome

Posted on March 18, 2023

I don’t know about you, but I hate it when a video begins playing automatically just as soon as I load a web page into my browser.

Posted on January 4, 2023

Regular readers of this blog know how much I enjoy recommending the great free software tools that I use every day on my own computers and mobile devices.

One of the most amazing things about the Internet age is how we can download useful programs and apps to complete most any task we can imagine at absolutely no cost whatsoever.

I like to call it the era of ubiquitous freebies.

But the above being said, free downloads can often have a dark side…

How to use your smartphone as a portable document scanner

Posted on December 10, 2022

Important: After I published a link to this post in my newsletter I found out that CamScanner is now downloading a trial version of the app instead of the free version by default.

This is very misleading and I can no longer recommend it in good conscience.

If you’re still interested in the app, you can read more about the various plans right here.

This is a sad development because it really is a fantastic app. But I just can’t recommend something that misleads its potential users.

I apologize for any inconvenience this might have caused.  [Read more…]
