Q&A: Why can’t I update my iPhone 4 to iOS 7?

Question from Craig H.: I’ve finally decided to update my iPhone 4 to iOS 7 but it won’t let me. The phone freezes up at the “Checking for updates” screen, and it remains frozen no matter how long I let it try.

Should I try updating it some other way? Am I doing something wrong? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Rick’s answer: Craig, I’m guessing that your iPhone has been jailbroken. If that’s the case, you won’t be able to install the update for iOS 7 until you un-jailbreak it.

Q&A: How can I stop Open Office Writer from capitalizing the first letter on every line?

Question from Barb T.: Hi Rick. I have a simple question for you. Whenever I press the Enter key to go to the next line while typing in Open Office Writer, it automatically capitalizes the first letter of the first word on the line I just completed.

The thing is I write poetry, and I type everything in lower case. How can I prevent Open Office Writer from capitalizing the first letter on every line?

Q&A: Why is there a Floppy Disk drive showing up in Windows Explorer?

Question from Cynthia T.: Hi Rick. I have something going on with my computer that’s driving me up the wall.

Starting 3 days ago there’s a Floppy Disk A: drive showing up in Windows Explorer. I haven’t owned a computer with a floppy drive in it in years!

Why is a phantom floppy drive showing up in my drive list? And more importantly, how can I get rid of it? My computer is a Gateway desktop running Windows 7 Pro.

Q&A: Why is my brand new 64GB USB flash drive only formatting to 2GB?

Question from Steven D.: Rick, I recently bought a brand new Kingston 64GB USB flash drive off of eBay, but it will only format to 2GB.

I’ve tried every format option there is but the result is always the same. How can I tell if the drive is bad or if I’m doing something wrong?
