Scam alert: Don’t fall for the ‘Lets Start a Prayer Chain’ hoax on Facebook

Posted on January 4, 2018

As I’m sure you know, Facebook is a favorite playground for scammers and hoaxers thanks to it’s massive 2 billion+ person worldwide user base.

I despise scams and hoaxes in general, but the ones that really bother me the most are the ones that target Christians.

A while back I wrote a post about the insidious “Amen scam” that scammers use to profit off the good will of Christians.

That scam never ends because it’s so lucrative for the scammers, but others seem to come and go as the seasons change.  [Read more…]

Heads up: Facebook could soon be asking you to upload a “Selfie” to prove your identity

Posted on December 6, 2017

As you probably know by now, Facebook is a virtual playground for scammers, hackers and thieves from every spot on the globe.

The miscreants seem to be everywhere these days, hacking and cloning accounts right and left.

What’s more, it’s already been confirmed that the stolen credit/debit card info is actively being sold on the black market as we speak.  [Read more…]

Beware the fake ‘Google’ email that’s currently making the rounds

Posted on May 14, 2014

scamAnother day, another scam. This one is perpetrated via an email that claims to be from Google – but it isn’t.

The subject line of the scam email varies, but it usually is something like “Lookout Notice” or “Mail Notice“. If you happen to accidentally open the email, you’ll see text similar to this:  [Read more…]

Scam Alert: Do not install ‘Profile Visitors for Facebook’ extension

Posted on February 20, 2014

scamAnother insidious scam is making the rounds on Facebook. This one is perpetuated by a “free” browser extension called Profile Visitors for Facebook.

The website that’s hawking this fraudulent extension (I will not publish the URL for obvious reasons) claims that it will add a new menu option to your Facebook page that, when clicked, will tell you who has been looking at your Facebook profile.  [Read more…]
