How to change the default search engine in Safari

Posted on July 1, 2022

Like other popular web browsers, Safari allows you to choose the default search engine you want to use when you search for something on the web with your Apple device.

Safari comes pre-configured with Google set as its default search engine, but you can easily change that to Bing, DuckDuckGo or one of several other popular search engines if you choose to do so.  [Read more…]

Q&A: Can I set an iPad to give a visual alert for new notifications?

Posted on September 17, 2021

Question from Gloria:  Hi Rick. I hope you can help me find a solution to a problem we’re having with my husband’s iPad.

He recently started using Facebook to keep in touch with the grandkids and some of our other family members.

The problem is he’s completely deaf and he can’t hear the notification alerts when someone sends him a message on the iPad.

Is there any way to have it light up with every new notification?

I read the article where you explained why iPhones don’t need to have an antivirus app running on them.

My family has three iPads that we use every single day. Does the same thing apply to them too?

In other words can we safely skip installing an antivirus app on our iPads?

Posted on December 26, 2020

Question from Barry:  I need to do some maintenance on my leaf blower so I downloaded the owner’s manual to my phone.

The file downloaded just fine but when I try to open it I get an error message saying there’s no app for opening PDF files on my device.

What am I doing wrong? I really need to open this file so I can work on my leaf blower.
