Q&A: How do I change a post’s author in WordPress?

Posted on April 29, 2024

Question from Carla G.:  I have a WordPress blog and a while back I read your post explaining why we should write our blog posts using an “Editor” account instead of the “Administrator” account.

I set up a new account with the Editor role as you suggested and I’ve been logging into that account to do my writing ever since.

Yesterday I happened to notice that my old posts still have the Author name that corresponds to the Administrator account that I no longer use when writing my posts.

I’d like to change the Author of  those old posts to my other name and I can’t find a way to do it anywhere on the “Edit Post” screen. I know there has to be a way to do it though.  [Read more…]

Q&A: Is it really dangerous to keep using Windows 7?

Posted on April 28, 2024

Question from Luisa:  I’m hoping you can clear something up for me.

I’ve heard some people say we need to stop using Windows 7 now that Microsoft has stopped updating it because it’s no longer safe.

Others are saying it’s perfectly fine to keep using it as long as the computer has an antivirus on it.

This is really confusing to me.

My HP laptop is old but it still works fine even though it has Windows 7 on it. I really hate the thought of having to replace it, but I will if it’s really unsafe to use.

Q&A: Can a broken light pole fry a computer?

Question from Elaine:  I came home from work yesterday evening and the power company was replacing a light pole in the neighbor’s yard that had been broken off by a wrecked car.

It took several hours for them to get the power back on, and when they did my ASUS desktop PC wouldn’t come on.

When I press the power button nothing happens. No noise of any kind, and no lights – nothing.

I know the outlet is working because the other items that are plugged into the same power strip are working fine.

Do you think the broken light pole fried my computer somehow? And if it did, can it be fixed?  [Read more…]

Q&A: Does Windows still leave traces of deleted programs behind?

Posted on April 25, 2024

Question from Vince:  Hi, Rick. I need a little info and advice about Windows 11 if you don’t mind.

I’ve been using Geek Uninstaller to delete programs ever since I read your post explaining how Windows leaves bits and pieces of a program behind when it deletes it.

I updated my Windows 10 computer to Windows 11 and I was wondering if Windows 11 leaves traces of deleted programs behind too. I’m hoping Microsoft has finally fixed this?

Q&A: Which camera is better – Nikon or Canon?

Note: The links in this post are affiliate links.

Question from Michael:  Rick, I have a question for you about cameras. Which brand is better, Nikon or Canon?

My daughter is wanting to get more deeply into photography and I need to buy her a DSLR. Some people are saying to get her a Canon and others are saying Nikon.

We don’t have a clue who to believe because I don’t know the first thing about DSLRs. I trust your judgement, so between Canon and Nikon, which do you think is the best?  [Read more…]
