How to reset an iPad back to the factory default settings

Posted on June 22, 2020

ipadA while back I wrote a post explaining how to reset a smart phone back to the factory default settings, and I have received a lot of positive feedback on that post.

Since then I’ve had several people ask me how to do the same for an iPad, so I thought I’d put the instructions for resetting an iPad back to its factory defaults in a post of its own. I hope it will help some folks.

It’s actually quite easy to reset your iPad. Here’s how:  [Read more…]

Q&A: Why is the keyboard on my iPad split in half?

Posted on September 17, 2017

ipad-split-keyboardQuestion from Linda:  My 4 year old got her hands on my iPad and now the onscreen keyboard is split into two halves.

I tried typing with it like this but I just can’t because it feels so unnatural.

I’ll be forever in your debt if you can tell me what I need to do to get it back to normal! Can you?

Rick’s answer:  This actually happens a lot Linda, and it’s almost always by accident based on the desperate pleas for help I receive on a fairly consistent basis.

Your message prompted me to finally write this post explaining how to fix the split keyboard issue.  [Read more…]

Q&A: How do I reset my iPad back to the factory settings after it has been jailbroken?

Posted on September 14, 2017

ipad2Question from Christy L.:  Hi Rick. I’ve been reading your tips for over a year now and I love them. Thank you for posting them.

Now, it’s my turn to ask for help. I hope you can tell me how to fix a serious problem with my iPad.

I loaned my son my iPad 2 to use while he was waiting for his Macbook to get back from the repair shop. While he was using it one of his friends showed him how to jailbreak it. Now it runs real slow and the battery drains in half the time it used to take.

I was told that resetting the iPad back to it factory default settings would fix the problem. Can you tell me how to do that? I can’t afford to pay Apple to do it for me and it’s no longer under warranty.

Thanks to Apple’s popular cloud storage service known as iCloud, keeping your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch backed up is as easy as 1-2-3. And trust me, there will come a time when you will need it.

Here’s how to enable automatic iCloud backups on your Apple device:  [Read more…]

ATTN iPhone Users: Your favorite app might stop working after Apple releases iOS 11.

Posted on May 12, 2017

Do you have a favorite app that you’ve been using on your iPhone or other iOS device for years?

If so, there’s a chance that it might stop working after you update your device to iOS 11 after it’s released this fall.
