Q&A: How can I force Google to always show American search results?

Posted on February 10, 2023

Question from Brett:  I need your help with something if you don’t mind, Rick.

I travel frequently on business, often to other countries (mostly to western Europe but occasionally to South and Central America as well).

The problem I’m having is every time I click on my bookmark to load Google it takes me to the Google site for whichever country I’m in at the time.

I really need for my browser to load the Google search results for the United States at all times because only those results are relevant to the research I do for my job.

Do you know of a way to force Google to always show the American search results no matter which country I’m in at the time?  [Read more…]

Q&A: Is Microsoft Defender just as good as other antivirus apps?

Posted on February 8, 2023

Question from Darryl:  I have always understood Windows’ built-in “Microsoft Defender” antivirus app to be inferior to other antivirus programs.

But yesterday I heard that might no longer be the case.

What’s your opinion about Microsoft Defender?

Is it really just as good as the third-party antivirus programs that are being sold today?

Q&A: How can I view saved passwords on my iPhone?

Posted on February 2, 2023

Question from Ronnie:  I have a question about Safari on my iPhone.

I have an account with an online service (I’d rather not say what it is) that I’ve been accessing for over a year with my iPhone.

I just bought a new laptop and I want to start accessing that website on it instead of my iPhone.

The problem is I can’t remember the password because Safari has been automatically filling it in for me.

Is there any way I can view that stored password in Safari so I can use it to log into the account on my laptop? [Read more…]

Q&A: Why’s the Start Menu randomly popping up on my PC?

Posted on February 2, 2023

Question from Lauren:  I have an older Dell desktop PC with Windows 10 on it (upgraded from Windows 7).

It has always worked well, but I’ve recently started having a bit of trouble with it.

Sometimes when I’m typing something the Start menu will pop up all on it’s own just like I clicked on the Start button or pressed the Windows key (neither of which is the case when this happens).  [Read more…]

Q&A: How do I hide my photos from strangers on Facebook?

Posted on February 1, 2023

Question from Kate:  Can you tell me how to hide my photos from people who are not friends with me on Facebook?

I know I can see how my page looks to people who are not friends and it still shows my photos. Thank you!
