Are virtual keyboards a good option for students?

Posted on February 7, 2023

In simple terms, a virtual keyboard is an on-screen keyboard that is used with a mouse. With virtual keyboards, the keys are pressed by pointing to a key on the screen and clicking the mouse.

We are used to virtual keyboards on our phones and tablets. However, they are not always convenient for students, especially when it comes to writing essays or doing other work.  [Read more…]

How (and why) to enable the root user account on a Mac

Posted on January 22, 2023

If you have a Mac and your user account has administrator privileges, you’re able to access things and perform actions that aren’t available to users that don’t have admin accounts.

But even accounts with admin privileges are limited in the things they can access and do on a Mac.

However, there’s a special user account with the username “root” that you can use to access and make changes to any area of the file system that isn’t write-protected by your Mac’s System Integrity Protection system.  [Read more…]

Q&A: Why won’t Microsoft Defender turn on after removing McAfee?

Posted on January 2, 2023

Question from Ray:  I know that Microsoft Defender disables itself if it detects a second antivirus is running but that it’s supposed to automatically turn back on if you remove the other antivirus program.

Beelink SER3 Mini PC with W11 Pro

I’ve been using mini PCs exclusively in my office for over three years and I doubt if I will ever go back to a full-size or mid-size desktop computer.

The power and capabilities they pack into these things is nothing less than astounding. In a nutshell, you get full desktop power in a machine that’s about the size of a brick.

This little gem from Beelink is an exceptional value for the money in my humble opinion. It comes with an AMD Ryzen 3 3200U CPU, 16GB DDR4 RAM and a super-fast 500GB NVME SSD. The Windows 11 Pro is a nice bonus as well.
