Stop your PC from exchanging Windows Updates with other PCs via the Internet

Posted on January 7, 2023

If you have a newer PC with Windows 10 or Windows 11 on it, chances are you like it. I hope you do anyway.

Personally, I think the most recent versions of Windows are OK, but there’s one thing about them that I don’t like one bit.

I’m guessing you won’t be all that fond of it either.  [Read more…]

Warning: Installing this new Windows Update could crash your PC!

Posted on March 14, 2021

If you’ve been using Microsoft Windows for a while you’re probably quite familiar with Windows Updates.

These periodic updates to the Windows operating system do everything from patching newly-discovered security holes to adding entirely new features the OS.

Unfortunately, they also occasionally cause problems and one of the latest updates to Windows 10 is causing a big one.

How to prevent Windows 10 from automatically downloading Windows Updates

Posted on April 13, 2016

disable-automatic-windows-updates-windows-10In case you haven’t noticed, Microsoft really wants your PC to download and install all available Windows Updates automatically.

Personally, I don’t mind that because I always keep a current backup of my PC’s hard drive on hand in case something goes wrong.

Q&A: Windows Update isn’t finding new updates. How can I fix it?

Posted on October 19, 2015

Windows-10-logoQuestion from Larry Y.:  Hi Rick. I read your post explaining how to avoid the automatic update to Windows 10, but I have a different problem.

I upgraded my Dell Desktop computer from Windows 7 to Windows 10 a couple of months ago and ever since then I can’t get Windows Update to work correctly. When I click “Check for updates” it goes through the motions but it never finds any updates.

I’ve read every forum post I can find relating to Windows Update but nothing I’ve tried has worked. Any suggestions on what I should try next?
