With USB Flash Drives getting bigger and faster all the time, USB 3.0 flash drives in the 16GB-64GB range are quite common now, and inexpensive as well.

Although you can purchase flash drives that rival the storage space of a small hard drive these days, the sweet spot in price vs. capacity and performance seems to be with 128GB models.

I recently received a Corsair Flash Voyager Slider X1 128GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive (#ad) for review, and as with most Corsair products I was quite impressed with it overall.

Get this awesome 256GB USB 3.0 thumb drive at a great price!

Posted on November 16, 2015

winten-128gb-thumb-driveWouldn’t it be nice to have an inexpensive 256GB SSD that plugs into a USB port and fits in your shirt pocket? Well, you can now buy external SSD’s that do fit in your pocket, but they’ll set you back a pretty penny.

But luckily there is a much less expensive alternative.

With the blazing fast speed of the USB 3.0 interface, a high capacity thumb drive truly is almost like having a portable SSD that you can carry with you anywhere and plug into virtually any PC.  [Read more…]

Q&A: Why does my USB flash drive cause a “Code 43” error when I plug it into my computer?

Windows-10-logoIf you have ever installed Windows from an optical disc, you surely know how slow the process is. That’s because by their very nature, even the fastest optical drive is a slug compared to virtually any form of solid state storage.

We have been able to download Windows over the Internet for some time now, but before we could use the software we still had to burn the ISO image onto either a DVD or USB Flash Drive.

Regardless of which type of media we chose to use for our installation medium, it was still a hassle getting the software onto onto it. And if we chose to put it on a DVD, actually installing Windows onto a PC was still as slow as molasses on a cold winter day.

Well, it appears that we just might have a much simpler and faster option for installing Windows beginning with the official release of Windows 10.  [Read more…]

Posted on March 3, 2015

I frequently receive emails and messages from folks asking why their USB flash drive isn’t showing up in Windows Explorer (File Explorer for Windows 8 users).

This typically occurs after something happens to the drive’s file structure that makes the drive unrecognizable as a valid drive to the Windows Explorer utility.

Luckily, this can be fixed as long as there isn’t a problem with the physical drive itself. Follow these steps to format a USB flash drive that doesn’t show up in Windows Explorer: [Read more…]
