When is the best time of the day for posting a tweet on Twitter?

Posted on October 29, 2019

twitter-logoIf you could only post one tweet per day, when would be the best time to do it?

I’ve seen this question asked over and over on various social media forums, and as you might expect there sees to be no uniform answer.

Some people prefer to tweet in mid-morning, others at night. In other words, this isn’t a good question to ask in a forum if you want an accurate answer.

Well, thanks to a fairly comprehensive body of research, we don’t really have to guess about when is the best time to post a single daily tweet.  [Read more…]

How to schedule posts on Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn for publication at a later time

Posted on October 12, 2019

There are times when it would be nice to have the ability to schedule a post to go live on your Facebook, Twitter or LinkedIn timeline at a later date and time.

Facebook already allows users to schedule posts for future publication on “business pages”, but they don’t allow you to do it with your personal account. And neither do Twitter and LinkedIn.

However, a fantastic service called TwitTimer allows you to schedule your posts for later publication on all three of those social media platforms.  [Read more…]

Q&A: How can I hide the retweets from someone I follow on Twitter but keep receiving their own tweets?

Posted on October 11, 2019

Question from Melanie W.:  I have a question about Twitter that I hope you can answer for me.

I’m following a woman who’s a news anchor on my local TV station.

I really love her tweets because they’re always interesting and informative, but she retweets like crazy and most of the things she retweets don’t interest me at all.

I know I could unfollow her but then I wouldn’t be able to see the tweets she posts.

Is there a way to keep following this person and see the tweets she posts herself but not see any of her retweets?

How to prevent Twitter from showing ‘Best Tweets’ in your Timeline

Posted on March 24, 2019

twitter-logoIf you use Twitter you’ve probably noticed that they’ve started displaying “Best Tweets” at the top of your Timeline when you log in.

These “Best Tweets” are selected by an algorithm similar to the one Facebook uses to select the “Top Stories” you see on there.

Personally, I don’t much care for “Best Tweets” or “Top Stories”.

I’d much rather have everything show up in my Timeline in reverse chronological order and decide for myself which tweets and posts are the best.

If you feel that way too, a simple settings change will prevent those so-called “Best Tweets” from taking over your Timeline. Just follow these steps:  [Read more…]

Q&A: How do I report a fake Twitter account that’s pretending to be me?

Posted on February 14, 2019

Question from Susan:  Hi Rick. I have a really serious problem and I’m hoping you can help me solve it.

I’m a singer and I have a pretty sizable following in my local (parts of 5 states) region. You probably wouldn’t recognize my name if you heard it but most of the people in my region would.

Anyway, I use my Twitter account to keep my followers up to date on where I’ll be performing, when I’ll be releasing a new CD and other such “news”.

As of this morning I have approximately 36,000 followers.

The problem I’m having is someone has opened a fake Twitter account using my name and photo and they’ve been using that account to spread false announcements concerning me.

For example, just last week they said I was going to be singing at a county fair about an hour away in a neighboring state. I found out that at least 20 of my fans saw that post and drove long distances from their homes to see me at that fair.

Needless to say they were really upset when they found out I wasn’t there.

And they’re doing other things too like posting nasty things and getting my fans upset. I’ve actually lost several hundred followers on my real Twitter account because of some of the things that were posted on the fake one.

I don’t know why this person is doing this but it’s caused me a lot of heartache. My question is how can I report this fake account to Twitter and (hopefully) have them to remove it. I’ve tried just ignoring the other account but now I realize that I can’t.
