Q&A: How can I hide the retweets from someone I follow on Twitter but keep receiving their own tweets?

Posted on October 11, 2019

Question from Melanie W.:  I have a question about Twitter that I hope you can answer for me.

I’m following a woman who’s a news anchor on my local TV station.

I really love her tweets because they’re always interesting and informative, but she retweets like crazy and most of the things she retweets don’t interest me at all.

I know I could unfollow her but then I wouldn’t be able to see the tweets she posts.

Is there a way to keep following this person and see the tweets she posts herself but not see any of her retweets?

Rick’s answer:  I know exactly what you mean, Melanie. I too follow several people who post really interesting tweets of their own but tend to retweet some of the dullest things you can imagine!

Luckily, it’s very easy to block just the retweets from someone you follow on Twitter. Simply follow the steps below:

1 – Log in to your Twitter account.

2 – Visit the Timeline page of the person you wish to stop receiving retweets from.

3 – Click the three vertical dots that are located to the left of the “Following” button, then select Turn off Retweets from the drop-down menu.

That’s all there is to it. You should no longer see that person’s retweets in your Twitter newsfeed but continue to see the tweets she posts herself.

I hope this helps, Melanie. Good luck!

Update from Melanie: Duh!!! Why have I never seen that option before? I’ve used that menu lots of times and never noticed it. Thanks so much for your help!
