Question from Stephen:  I’ve been wanting to buy an SSD for my laptop for a while now, but the high prices for SSDs have been holding me back.

I was checking on eBay last night and saw where a guy is selling used Crucial MX500 512GB 2.5″ SSDs for just $40 each.

What’s your opinion on used solid state drives? Do you think I should buy one?  [Read more…]

Q&A: Is an NVMe drive really faster than a SATA III SSD?

Posted on December 27, 2022

Question from Norbert:  I just ordered an Intel i7 CPU and ASUS gaming motherboard combo that supports both M.2 NVMe and 2.5″ SATA III drives.

And you were right – the speed increase is astounding! Thanks for the info!

As I was installing the SSD I noticed how much larger it is than the 256GB SD card that’s inside my phone.

Why is the SSD so much larger than the SD card when they both hold roughly the same amount of data?

Q&A: If I remove a computer’s hard drive will any data be left behind?

Posted on October 25, 2022

Question from Karen:  I have several old computers in my basement that I want to recycle.

I’ve always heard that you need to destroy a computer’s hard drive before you recycle it to prevent someone else from maybe getting your files.

My question is will removing the hard drive from a PC completely eliminate any possibility of someone finding my old files.
