A massive 13TB SSD is slated to hit the market next month

Posted on January 15, 2016

fixstars-ssdLast July I wrote a post about how Solid State Drives (SSDs) would soon be competing with traditional hard drives in terms of storage capacity and cost, and sure enough, they are starting to do just that.

With that in mind, it appears that SSDs are now ballooning in capacity as well.

The Japanese-based Fixstars Corporation is planning to release a massive SSD in February 2016 that contains a mind-boggling 13TB of storage space.

Yes, you read that right: That’s indeed 13TB – over twice the size of current SSDs.  [Read more…]

Of all the upgrades you can make to a modern PC, the one that will provide the most bang for the buck, by far, is replacing your existing hard drive with a Solid State Drive (SSD).

If you’ve never used a computer that has an SSD, you’ll be absolutely amazed at how much faster your PC will boot into the operating system and load your programs.

Samsung’s 840 EVO-Series 250GB SSD (#ad) is one of the best SSD deals on the market. Thanks to its excellent price/performance ratio it is now the number one selling Solid State Drive on Amazon.  [Read more…]

Review: Samsung 840 EVO 1TB 2.5-Inch SATA III SSD

samsung-840-evo-1tb-ssdI’ve written several posts in the past explaining how replacing your PC’s hard drive with a solid state drive (SSD) is the best upgrade you can make for the money, and that’s still the case today.

The only real drawback to upgrading to an SSD has always been the real possibility of sacrificing valuable storage space in exchange for an SSD’s blazing speed.

The good news however is the capacities of solid state drives are steadily increasing even as their prices continue to drop.

Nowadays you can buy a super-fast SSD with plenty of storage without having to pay a small fortune. A great example is the Samsung 840 EVO 1TB 2.5-Inch SATA III SSD.  [Read more…]

Is your Samsung 840 EVO SSD running slower than it should? Here’s how to speed it up.

samsung-840-evo-series-250gb-ssdA while back I purchased a 120Gb Samsung 840 EVO solid state drive (SSD) for my desktop PC, and I love it.

At first this drive was lightning fast, but before long I noticed that it had slowed down to the point where it was really no faster than a traditional spinning hard drive.

I double-checked all the settings and made sure there was plenty of free work space available on the drive, and nothing seemed to be amiss. Frustrated, I did a Google search to see if anyone else was having problems with their Samsung SSDs, and sure enough, they were.  [Read more…]

Review: Samsung 840 EVO-Series 120GB 2.5-Inch SATA III Solid State Drive

samsung-840-evo-series-120gb-ssdThese days replacing your computer’s hard drive with a super-fast solid state drive (SSD) gives you more bang for the buck than just about any upgrade you can make.

Most people will tell you that once you’ve owned a PC that boots from an SSD, you’ll never want to be without one again!

I recently received a Samsung 840 EVO-Series 120GB 2.5-Inch SATA III SSD for review, and I decided to install it in my Gateway desktop PC. In this review I’ll give you my opinion of the drive.  [Read more…]
