Review: Dell Inspiron 15.6″ FHD Touchscreen Signature Laptop

Posted on February 4, 2019

These days you can buy entry-level Windows laptops for as little as $200, and those machines are actually pretty good for general Internet use.

But if you need to do more than just check out your favorite websites and catch up on Facebook you really need something a bit more powerful.

The latest Dell Inspiron 15.6″ FHD Touchscreen Signature Laptop (#ad) has everything you’ll need in a general-purpose machine, with the added bonus of a powerful Intel Core i5-6200U CPU. Best of all, it’s affordable.

This laptop comes with all the following:

Review: Dell XPS9360-7758SLV-PUS 13.3-Inch Touchscreen Laptop

Most laptops used to be weak, watered down PCs that sacrificed power for portability, but that’s no longer the case.

Today’s modern laptop and notebook computers are plenty powerful enough to do most anything that even the fastest desktop PCs can do.

Even as laptops get more powerful by the day, they are also getting thinner and lighter, making them easier than ever to take along with you as you travel for work or pleasure.

The Dell XPS9360-7758SLV-PUS 13.3-Inch Touchscreen Laptop (#ad) is a perfect example. Even though it’s strikingly thin, measures just 15×12 inches and weighs less than 3 pounds, this machine has all the power that one might need in a laptop. Check out these awesome specs:  [Read more…]

Q&A: Can a laptop with a bad power connector be fixed?

Question from Ron:  My Toshiba laptop seems to have an intermittent short in the motherboard power connector.

Most of the time it acts like the AC adapter isn’t even plugged in, but if you wiggle the connector a certain way it will sometimes start charging the battery and the screen will get brighter.

I know the problem isn’t a bad AC adapter because it does the same thing with my wife’s adapter plugged in (we have identical laptops).

This laptop is only 14 months old (2 months out of warranty) but I don’t want to spend almost as much as I could buy a new one for to get it fixed. I’m afraid it might need a new motherboard, but I’m hoping it’s something a lot simpler and cheaper.

Do you think this can be fixed without laying out too much cash?

Q&A: Is there any way I can use an old PS/2 style keyboard with my new laptop?

Question from Anita L.:  Hi Rick. I hope you can answer a computer question for me.

I’ve been using computers for over 30 years, but believe it or not I just bought my very first laptop. Yay me!!

Long story short, I love the laptop but absolutely hate the keyboard!

I know that I can buy a new USB keyboard and plug it in and it will work, but I have an old Cherry PS/2 style keyboard that I’ve had for many years. I’d really love to use that keyboard because I love the feel and sound of the mechanical keys.

The problem is my laptop doesn’t have a PS/2 keyboard connector. Is there any way I can make this keyboard work with my laptop? Some kind of adapter maybe?

Thanks for your help. Love your site by the way!!!

5 awesome ‘Back to School’ tech deals for your child

Posted on August 3, 2018

Guess what? It’s almost time for the kids to head back to school for the new year!

I don’t know about you, but it seems to me like their summer vacation gets shorter every year – and this year’s is just about gone.

That means it’s time to start shopping for some new clothes as well as a bushel of school supplies like spiral notebooks, pencils, glue sticks and sanitary wipes.

But the really serious shopping will be for the tech items the older kids will need. You know, the laptop and other goodies that are pretty much required these days.

With that in mind, here are five suggestions to help you get started…  [Read more…]
