Q&A: Will CCleaner run on a Macbook Pro?

Posted on October 19, 2019

ccleaner-logoQuestion from Helen S.:  Hi Rick. Based upon your recommendation, I’ve been using CCleaner to keep my Windows laptop cleaned out and optimized for some time now. I really appreciate you telling us about things like this!

My daughter just bought a brand new MacBook Pro (#ad) and I was wondering if CCleaner will work on it too? If it will I’m planning to buy her a copy and help her install it while she’s in for the holidays.

Thanks in advance for your advice!

Scam alert: CCleaner has been hacked. If you use it you need to download the latest version, ASAP!

Posted on September 18, 2017

CCleaner has been one of my favorite Windows cleanup tools for years, and I’ve recommended it to countless other folks during that time.

Unfortunately, CCleaner’s maker Piriform has just announced that hackers have somehow managed to break into one of their servers and add malicious code to a recent build of the CCleaner software.

That means if you recently downloaded CCleaner to your PC or installed a recent update, your computer could well have malware on it.  [Read more…]

Quickly uninstall unwanted Windows apps with CCleaner

Posted on October 29, 2015

ccleaner-logoMicrosoft first introduced the Windows Store along with Windows 8, and now that Windows 10 is here the Windows Store and its many available apps are included with it as well.

The Windows Store is simply a collection of lightweight Windows apps that you can download and install on your Windows PC.

Some of those apps are actually quite useful, but many others offer little if any real value at all. Even worse, a few of them are nothing more than adware and junkware. A perfect example is the much-hated “Get Office” app that I wrote about in a previous post.  [Read more…]

Q&A: How do I get rid of annoying Manycam pop-ups after I’ve uninstalled it?

Posted on November 5, 2013

manycam-logoQuestion from Demetrius A.:  I used a program called “Manycam” for a while but then it started crashing and causing problems. I uninstalled it, but it still gives me pop-ups every time I boot up my computer. How can I get rid of it for good?

Rick’s answer:  Hi Demetrius. The built-in Windows uninstaller does a poor job at removing all the bits and pieces of a program, and the remnants that are left over can be both annoying and dangerous. That’s why I recommend using Geek Uninstaller instead. This awesome free utility completely uninstalls any program, and cleans up all the garbage that’s left over too.  [Read more…]
