Today’s featured tech tip….

How to use your default search engine as a handy dictionary

If you do a lot of reading online with a laptop or desktop PC you probably encounter unfamiliar words every now and then.

The next time that happens, don’t waste time pulling out a dictionary. Use your computer’s search engine instead. Just follow the steps below for the device you’re using.

If you’re using a web browser on a laptop or desktop computer:

1 – Highlight the unfamiliar word with your mouse.

2 – Right-click on the highlighted word and click Search [default search engine] for [highlighted term].

For example, if the word in question is “intrigue” and your default search engine is Google, you would highlight the word intrigue, then right-click on it and click Search Google for “intrigue”.

If you’re using the Safari browser on an iPhone or iPad:

1 – Tap the word to highlight it.

2 – Tap Look Up.

If you’re using an Android device:

1 – Tap the word to highlight it.

2 – Tap the three dots at the right side of the pop-up menu.

3 – Tap Web search.
