How to check if your Galaxy Note 7 smartphone is on the recall list

Posted on September 16, 2016

galaxy-note-7As I mentioned in this post, Samsung issued a world-wide recall a couple of weeks ago for all Galaxy Note 7 smartphones that have been sold to date due to a dangerous battery issue.

Since then they have been able to determine which specific phones have the defective batteries, and they have modified the recall to cover only the affected devices.

If you own a Galaxy Note 7 you can now easily check to see if your phone still falls under the recall notice. You can choose either of two methods for checking your phone’s recall status:  [Read more…]

Q&A: Can I reset my Windows login pin, but keep using the same pin?

Posted on September 9, 2016

Windows-10-logoQuestion from Bob S.:  I had been using a pin instead of a password and that worked just fine.

I had some other issues and needed to do a safe boot. Then back to regular boot. Now it is asking for my password instead of a pin to log in.

I want to use my pin, but I don’t want to change it. The only options I have are change or remove the pin.

Is there a place I can say use my pin instead of my password? I want to keep the same pin I have been using. Don’t want to change it.

Any thoughts on what I might do? Thanks in advance … Bob

How to delete old ‘Post Revisions’ in WordPress

Posted on September 7, 2016

wordpress-logo“Post Revisions” is a very handy WordPress feature that was first released along with WordPress version 2.6, and for active bloggers it can be a veritable lifesaver.

In a nutshell, it creates a new backup copy of the post you’re editing every time you click the “Save Draft” button. That makes it extremely easy to revert back to any previous version of a post at any time.

But there’s a problem with Post Revisions: They can grow your WordPress database exponentially if you tend to make several revisions to every post you write.  [Read more…]

Review: HGST Touro 1TB 7200RPM High-Performance USB Hard Drive

Portable USB hard drives make it easy to back up the hard drives in our computers and share large quantities of files among machines that aren’t on the same local network.

If you’re looking for the fastest high-capacity USB drive around, a portable Solid State Drive (SSD) would fit the bill quite nicely.

But if you’re just looking for something that’s faster than the typical USB hard drive yet doesn’t cost an arm and a leg, you can’t beat a 7200RPM USB hard drive.

There aren’t that many consumer-grade 7200RPM USB hard drives on the market right now, but I recently had the chance to check one out.  [Read more…]
