Scam alert: Beware ads for fraudulent ‘Addiction Treatment Centers’ on Facebook

Posted on May 29, 2019

As you probably know, addiction to prescription drugs is now a serious problem in the U.S., and addiction to illegal drugs has been plaguing our country for decades.

Addiction treatment centers exist to help those affected get off of the drugs, but many of the new treatment centers that are popping up aren’t out to help people at all. They’re simply out to get their money.  [Read more…]

Q&A: How do I change the DNS server settings to use ‘Open DNS’ in Linux Mint?

Posted on May 28, 2019

Question from Brad:  I recently replaced Windows Vista on my old Dell desktop computer with Linux Mint based on your recommendation in this post.

I’m happy with the upgrade (and it really is an upgrade), but I need your help with something.

On my Windows systems I have the DNS server settings all pointing to Open DNS because it seems to work so much better.

I’d like to change the DNS settings on this machine too but I’m afraid I might mess something up if I just go in there changing things without knowing what I’m doing.

Can you give me step-by-step instructions for changing the DNS server to Open DNS in Linux Mint?

Thanks in advance for your help. PS. Love your blog!!!

Q&A: How can I delete unused images in WordPress?

Posted on May 22, 2019

wordpress-logoQuestion from Dan J.:  Hi Rick. I recently made the switch from Blogger to my own self-hosted WordPress blog with the help of your step-by-step guide to installing WordPress. I can honestly say it’s the best move I’ve ever made.

I need your help with one issue though. I have a habit of changing my mind about the images I use with my posts, sometimes more than once. The unused images always pop up in the Media Library when I go back to choose an image for a post.

How can I remove the images that I don’t ever plan to use from the media library?
