How to make sure you’ll never get locked out of your Facebook account

Posted on June 17, 2021

I frequently receive frantic messages from Facebook users asking how they can regain access to their accounts when they’re unable to reset their passwords.

Unfortunately, in most of those cases I’m unable to help those folks reset their passwords and get back into their accounts.

That means they have no choice but to abandon their accounts and open new ones.

People find themselves in this situation because Facebook has determined that it’s better to have some people locked out of their accounts forever than to make it easy for hackers to reset the passwords of unsuspecting users.

It always bothers me to have to tell someone I won’t be able to help them get back into their Facebook account, but unfortunately that’s just the reality we are faced with for the time being.

Now all of the above being said, there are steps you can take right now to ensure that you’ll be able to reset your Facebook password if you ever forget it or if a hacker breaks into your account and changes the password.

Q&A: I lost my phone. Can I remotely sign out of Gmail using a different device?

Posted on June 17, 2021

Question from Carrie:  I went to Costco this morning and when I got home my phone wasn’t in my purse.

I checked both my car and my apartment from one end to other and it just isn’t here.

Then I called Costco to see if anyone had found it and turned it in at the Service Desk, but they hadn’t.

I didn’t go anywhere else, just to Costco so that has to be where I lost it.

I’m not too concerned about the phone itself. It’s an older Straight Talk phone that I was planning to replace soon anyway.

The thing that worries me is my Gmail was open (I keep it that way, stupid me). I have a lot of sensitive info and photos in my emails that I really don’t want anyone else to see.

Is there a way to use my computer to remotely sign out of Gmail on the lost phone?

Do you use a Windows 10 PC?

If so, take a look at the “Notifications” area in the lower-right corner of the screen…

See that little “Temperature” display?

That’s the new “Weather” (aka “News & Interests”) widget that Microsoft has added to Windows 10.

Just for fun, click on the temperature display to open the widget…  [Read more…]

Q&A: If I hide my WiFi network’s name will I still be able to connect to it?

Question from Jennie:  I overheard a conversation the other day that really interested me, and I want to see what you think about it.

A young man told his friend that hiding the WiFi network name in his router would prevent his neighbors from finding and connecting to the Internet over his network.

I live in an apartment building and I’m pretty sure I have this same problem right now.

I’d like to follow that guy’s advice but I want to make sure I can connect new devices of my own (as well as those of friends) to my WiFi network with the network name hidden. Will I be able to?

Yes, you can earn a living working from home as a blogger

Posted on June 11, 2021

Lots of folks daydream about working from home and making a decent living while avoiding much of the stress of the business world.

Well, I can tell you from personal experience that it can be done,  by virtually anyone – but success is rarely achieved overnight.

Truth be told, it typically takes a new blog about a year to start earning serious money. That’s why you’ll probably need to keep your day job while you’re learning the ropes and growing your blog to a profitable level.

But the above being said, once a blog gains traction it can really take off in a hurry! For me, that approximately one year wait was more than worth it!

There are plenty of ways to make a living from a home office, a basement shop, or even your kitchen table, but to be truly successful you’ll need two things:  [Read more…]
