Today’s quick tech tip….

How to ‘copy’ the link to a user’s Profile page with the Facebook app

I often receive requests for help with getting a cloned (i.e. fake) Facebook account removed, and in response I always ask the person to send me the link to the fake account’s Profile page so I can examine it and recommend the best course of action.

If the person is using Facebook in a web browser on a laptop or desktop computer, ‘copying’ the fake Profile URL is easy. They simply need to visit the Profile page in question and copy the link directly from the browser’s address bar.

But it can be confusing when the person is using the Facebook app on a mobile device because there’s no address bar to copy the link from.

Luckily, Facebook has provided a very simple way to ‘copy’ the URL for any Profile page with just a few taps. Here’s how:

1 – Open the Facebook app and visit the Timeline of the fake account.

2 – Tap the three dots icon.

3 – Tap the Copy link button.

That’s all there is to it. The link to the fake account’s Profile page is now stored on the device’s Clipboard, ready and waiting for you to ‘paste’ it into an instant message, email, SMS text message or anywhere else you might need to paste it.
