Today’s quick tech tip….

Here’s my best tip for switching from a PC to a Mac (or vice versa)

It’s no secret that Macs are quite different from Windows PCs, which is why there’s always a moderate learning curve involved any time a Windows user buys their first Mac (or vice versa).

However, there’s one simple tip that can make the switch a lot easier for you…

The Command key on a Mac’s keyboard is roughly equivalent to the Ctrl key on a Windows keyboard.

Although there are a few exceptions, most of the time you can simply substitute the Command key for the Ctrl key and end up accomplishing the same task.

For example, on a Windows PC you would press Ctrl+C to copy something to the keyboard and Ctrl+V to paste it.

To do the same things on a Mac you would press Command+C and Command+V.

Likewise, just like Ctrl+P will initiate a print job on a Windows machine, Command+P will initiate a print job on a Mac.

And of course there’s my favorite keyboard shortcut of all, Command+Z. Just like Ctrl+Z in Windows, Command+Z will undo the last thing you did.

You get the picture…

Bottom line: If you used the Ctrl key as part of a keyboard shortcut on your Windows PC, go ahead and try using the Command key in its place. More often than not it’ll work just like you expect it to.

And now, one final tip: If you’re switching from a Mac to your first Windows PC, just reverse everything I said above.
