Today’s quick tech tip….

If I turn on notifications for a Facebook post, will the poster know about it?

Question from Laura:  Sometimes I’ll see a post someone makes on Facebook and I’ll want to read the comments on it, but not comment on the post or “like” it myself.

I know I can turn on notifications for a post and Facebook will notify me when someone comments on it, but if I do that will the person that made the post be told that I’ve turned on notifications for it?

If I don’t want to Like or comment on a post I also wouldn’t want the poster to know I’m “eavesdropping” on the comments.

I hope my question makes sense. Thanks in advance for your answer.

Rick’s answer:  I have good news for you, Laura. If you turn on notifications for a post, the person who posted it will not be told that you turned them on.

In short, you’ll receive a notification every time someone leaves a comment on the post, and no one but you will ever know about it.

Just be aware that although you’ll be notified every time someone leaves a comment on the post, you will not be notified when someone replies to one of the comments. The notifications you turn on are only for the actual comments themselves, not replies to those comments.

I hope this helps, Laura. Happy Facebooking…
