Like most everyone else, you probably receive SPAM and phishing emails all the time.

And despite the existence of the Can-Spam act, this scourge of the Internet seems to actually be getting worse instead of better.

If you ever happen to accidentally open one of these obnoxious messages you might be tempted to click the “Unsubscribe” link located near the bottom of the message to have your email address removed from their mailing list.

This time they’re out to take control of your Facebook account by tricking you into helping them change the password so they can log in to it.

I’ve received several requests for help from readers who had their accounts hijacked via this scam, and unfortunately there was nothing I could do to help in most of those situations.

Q&A: Are these password-reset emails legit?

Question from Sue:  Yesterday I started getting emails from several websites that I mostly infrequently use or don’t use at all, such as Microsoft, Walmart, and Instagram.

But now I’ve received two more emails from two websites (AirBnB and eBay) that I DO use.

These emails were all in regard to resetting my password – either the password was already changed or a request to change it.

I’m confused about what’s going on and what I need to do?
