Scam alert: Don’t fall for the “Facebook No Swearing Campaign” hoax

Posted on February 16, 2018

A popular recurring Facebook hoax has started making the rounds again, and it has lots of Facebook users scrambling to share it with their friends.

It’s the old “Facebook No Swearing Campaign” hoax, and it’s filling up newsfeeds right and left.

In a nutshell, the hoax consists of an image stating that Facebook will shut down the accounts of any users who use profanity in their posts starting on April 1, 2018.

The message also states that this policy is being implemented due to a new “law” issued by Facebook’s legal department.

This is what the current iteration of the hoax message looks like:  [Read more…]

Scam Alert: Did you ‘Like’ one of the Russian Facebook pages that posted fake news during the 2016 election? Find out right now!

Posted on January 23, 2018

Unless you were living on another planet during the 2016 election cycle you probably know that fake Russian Facebook pages posted tons of links to fake news stories about the candidates.

What you night not have realized at the time is any “Likes” and “Shares” you might have made on those posts were helping spread “fake news”.

Luckily, it’s very easy to find out if you interacted with any of those infamous fake Russian Facebook pages. Here’s how:  [Read more…]

A while back I wrote a post about the insidious “Amen scam” that scammers use to profit off the good will of Christians.

That scam never ends because it’s so lucrative for the scammers, but others seem to come and go as the seasons change.  [Read more…]

Scam alert: Beware the insidious ‘Amen’ scam that’s targeting Christians on Facebook

Posted on November 16, 2017

As you probably know by now, Like and Share Farming is a popular method used by scammers to quickly build successful Facebook pages that they can use to scam other Facebook users.

In a nutshell, the scammer uses innocent-looking (and often heart-tugging) posts to attract thousands of “Likes” and “Shares” to a new page to make it “popular” among the Facebook community.

Well, there’s a rather insidious form of “Like and Share Farming” taking place right now, and it’s targeting Christians.

These posts are simply another variation of the “Feel Good Posts” that I have written about in the past.

The current scam typically works something like this…  [Read more…]

Scam alert: If you’re using the ‘Fast Secure Contact Form’ plugin on a WordPress blog you need to remove it, ASAP!

Posted on November 13, 2017

This is a heads-up to all my fellow bloggers…

If your blog is using the popular WordPress plugin Fast Secure Contact Form you need to remove it ASAP and use a different plugin to create your contact forms.

It really pains me to have to recommend this course of action because this has long been one of my favorite plugins.  [Read more…]
