Unfortunately, in the Internet age, viruses and other forms of malware tend to spread like wildfires, and it’s getting harder by the day to keep your devices from getting infected by them.

That’s why it’s important to install a high quality antivirus program on your Windows computer, keep it updated at all times and perform a couple of on-demand malware scans on a regular basis.

Macs aren’t as likely to get infected with malware as Windows machines, but it’s happening more all the time. And when it does the results can be catastrophic, which is why I recommend that Mac users install Malwarebytes on their machines.

With all of the above being said, a little due diligence can go a long way towards keeping your machines safe as well. [Read more…]

Question from Jane:  I bought a monitor and connected it to my laptop and then changed the settings so I could close the lid while the laptop is running. It’s been working fine now for about four months.

The thing is one of my friends saw this setup and he told me running the laptop with the lid closed will eventually kill it due to excessive heat build-up.

Soon after Windows 10 was released Microsoft made a very useful upgrade to the Clipboard via a new tool called Clipboard History.

In days of old the Windows Clipboard was limited to storing just one item at a time: the last item you either ‘copied’ or ‘cut’.

That was a pretty severe limitation since whatever was currently stored in the Clipboard was wiped out and overwritten the next time you copied or cut another item.

Clipboard History changed that by allowing the Clipboard to store up to the last 25 items that you either copied or cut. You can then choose among them when you needed to ‘paste’ something that’s stored there.  [Read more…]

One of the most irritating things about using a Windows PC is having to wait for it to boot up into a usable state after we turn it on.

To their credit, Microsoft has tweaked newer versions of Windows to reduce average boot times, but in my opinion it still takes longer for them to start up than it should.

Luckily, there are several things you can do to make your own PC boot up a lot faster than it does right now, even if your computer is brand new. Do as many or as few of them as you wish, then enjoy the fruits of your labor.  [Read more…]
