Today’s featured tech tip….
How to turn off notifications for an Android app
If you have an Android phone or tablet you’ve probably noticed how virtually every app you use loves to beep, vibrate your phone and generally make its presence known every time some event takes place within the app.
Of course some apps really need to let you know when something happens (like when you receive an SMS text message, for instance), but other non-critical apps can wait until the next time you open them to let you know about all the things that took place since your last session.
If there’s an app or two (or five) on your phone that you don’t really need to receive notifications from, you can easily disable those notifications. Here’s how:
1 – Open the Settings app on your device by tapping the Settings icon (it looks like a “gear“).
2 – Depending on your phone’s Android version, tap either Apps or Apps & notifications.
3 – Tap See all [xx] apps.
4 – Scroll down and tap on the app you want to disable notifications on.
5 – Tap Notifications.
6 – Toggle the “All [app name] notifications” setting to Off .
That’s all there is to it. You should no longer receive notifications from that app.
And now, one final note…
Many apps will allow you to leave notifications enabled but determine how you want to receive those notifications.
For example, you might want to block notification sounds for a given app but have your phone vibrate when that app sends out an alert.
The available notification options available vary from app to app. Just open the Notification settings for each app and check out the options, then make changes (or not) as desired.
