Today’s featured tech tip….

Love Notepad? Give Notepad++ a try

If you’re a long-time Windows user it’s a pretty good bet that you’re familiar with the super-handy Notepad text editor app. In fact, lots of folks use it multiple times per day.

If you’re a regular Notepad user, let me tell you about an awesome open source replacement for it that keeps all the great things about Notepad and adds in a bunch of extra cool features.

Notepad++ is sort of like Notepad on steroids. Here are just a few of its most useful enhancements:

1 – You can work with multiple documents at once, each of which will be readily accessible in its own tab.

2 – Multiple-level Undo and Redo makes it easy to make changes to your heart’s desire.

3 – Full-featured Search and Replace that goes well beyond what’s possible with NotePad.

4 – Full Drag N’ Drop functionality.

5 – User defined Syntax Highlighting for programmers.

Notepad++ is a portable program, which means you can run it at any time without having to actually install it on your computer.

To download Notepad++ just visit this page at Oldergeeks and click the large green Download Now link at the bottom of the page.

Now extract the files from the zipped folder you downloaded and double-click on the notepad++.exe file to launch it.

The user interface and menus of Notepad++ are very straightforward. I believe most Notepad users will have no problem whatsoever with making the switch without having to refer to any type of user manual.

But that being said, if you do end up needing a Notepad++ user manual, you’ll find it right here.
