Recent Windows versions are quite aggressive at tracking the things you do with your PC, both locally and online.

And as you might expect, Windows 11 does it big time.

For example, your Windows 11 machine takes note of the websites you visit, the ads you engage with and the things you search for in order to develop a customer profile on you.

Soon after Windows 10 was released Microsoft made a very useful upgrade to the Clipboard via a new tool called Clipboard History.

In days of old the Windows Clipboard was limited to storing just one item at a time: the last item you either ‘copied’ or ‘cut’.

That was a pretty severe limitation since whatever was currently stored in the Clipboard was wiped out and overwritten the next time you copied or cut another item.

Clipboard History changed that by allowing the Clipboard to store up to the last 25 items that you either copied or cut. You can then choose among them when you needed to ‘paste’ something that’s stored there.  [Read more…]

Lets face it, Windows 11 is a major data hog. By default, it’s constantly gathering various morsels of usage data and sending them to Microsoft over your Internet connection.

In addition to the obvious privacy concerns, this virtually constant transmission of usage data can really eat into your monthly data allotment if you are subscribed to an Internet service plan that has a data cap (i.e. the amount of data you can use every month).

The folks at Microsoft really love making changes just for the sake of making changes, and this one is a real head scratcher.

The thing is, Windows 11 still has a “Show Desktop” icon. They’ve simply moved it to the far right-hand side of the Taskbar and changed its appearance a bit. And depending on your settings, it could actually be hidden from view.

Here’s how make sure the “Show Desktop” icon is enabled on your Windows 11 PC…  [Read more…]

Question from Melanie:  For some time now Windows Update has been prompting me to update my PC from Windows 10 to Windows 11.

I’ve been putting this off because I’ve heard that lots of people who switch to Windows 11 end up hating it but they’re stuck with it because you can’t go back to Windows 10.

I was talking to a friend about this and she said that’s not true because you can actually go back to Windows 10 if you end up not liking Windows 11.

At this point I don’t know what to believe. I’d like to give Windows 11 a try but only if I’ll have the option to revert back to Windows 10 if I end up not liking it.

Can you clear this up for me?  [Read more…]
