Cut your iPhone’s data usage with a simple settings change

Posted on July 16, 2014

ios7-logoA new feature introduced with iOS 7 makes it easier to conserve your iPhone’s monthly data allotment. You can now tell iOS which apps are allowed to use cellular data and which ones must wait until you’re connected to a Wi-Fi network.

As you probably know, data that’s sent and received via Wi-Fi doesn’t count against your monthly data allotment, so using as many apps as possible only when you’re connected via Wi-Fi can save you a bundle on monthly data overage charges.

It’s easy to tell iOS which apps you want to restrict to using Wi-Fi only. Here’s how:  [Read more…]

Q&A: If I buy a refurbished iPhone 4 from Apple will it come with iOS 7 installed?

Posted on April 5, 2014

ios-7-1Question from Belinda D.:  I’m thinking about buying a refurbished iPhone 4 directly from Apple. If I do, will it have iOS 7 on it or will I have to upgrade it to iOS 7 after I buy it?

If I have to upgrade it myself I might just go with a new iPhone 5c. I’m really not very tech savvy lol. Thanks in advance for the info. I LOVE your site by the way!!

Q&A: Why can’t I update my iPhone 4 to iOS 7?

Posted on March 3, 2014

ios7-logoQuestion from Craig H.:  I’ve finally decided to update my iPhone 4 to iOS 7 but it won’t let me. The phone freezes up at the “Checking for updates” screen, and it remains frozen no matter how long I let it try.

Should I try updating it some other way? Am I doing something wrong? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Rick’s answer:  Craig, I’m guessing that your iPhone has been jailbroken. If that’s the case, you won’t be able to install the update for iOS 7 until you un-jailbreak it.

Luckily, that’s real easy to do by simply restoring your phone to the factory default settings. Here’s how:  [Read more…]

ios7-logoiOS 7 is a great operating system for your Apple device because it has simplified many common tasks and added several very useful new features.

But one task in iOS 7 isn’t simpler at all. If you happen to have several tabs open in Safari at once, it can be a real pain closing all of them one at a time. As you probably know, it requires a LOT of swiping!

But luckily there is a way to easily and quickly close ALL open tabs at the same time. Just use the simple procedure explained below:  [Read more…]

How to use your iPhone’s flash as a flashlight without a third-party app

Posted on January 3, 2014

ios7-logoThanks to a new feature in iOS 7, iPhone users can now turn on the camera’s flash and use it as a flashlight without having to install a third-party app.

In my opinion, this is a feature that should have been included in the operating system of every smart phone for years.

There are several flashlight apps available for the iPhone, but now we don’t have to use them on phones running iOS 7.

It’s easy to turn on the new Flashlight feature. Here’s how:  [Read more…]
