Facebook now allows you to post a picture directly into a comment

Posted on June 19, 2013

facebook-logoIf you don’t see it already, you’ll soon notice a little camera icon on the right-hand side of the text box when you’re  commenting on a Facebook post or picture. Click on the camera icon and you can upload a picture directly into the comment box.

This new feature is being rolled out as I write this, and before long all Facebook users will have the ability to insert photos directly into their comments.  [Read more…]

Q&A: Why can’t I send messages to my friend on Facebook?

Posted on May 26, 2013

facebook-logoQuestion from Karan F.:  Hi Rick. I hope you can help me. I have a close friend who finally got around to creating a Facebook account after much prodding from me and a couple of her other friends. We exchanged several messages a few nights ago, then I logged off and went to bed.

When I logged back into Facebook the next day, I opened our previous conversation and tried messaging her again. I couldn’t. The previous messages were still there, but her name was in black. I tried clicking on her name so I could message her from her profile page, but it wouldn’t click.

Finally, in desperation I searched for her name in the search box and it said it couldn’t find her account. I called her to ask what was going on and she said she didn’t know but she couldn’t log in. Sorry, I know this is long but I really need to find out what’s going on? Do you have any clue as to what might have happened?

The Facebook for Android app now lets you delete unwanted comments

Posted on May 13, 2013

facebook-for-androidIf you use the popular Facebook for Android app you probably wish you could delete unwanted or inappropriate comments right from your phone without having to rush to the nearest computer. If so, you’re in luck!

Facebook has just released the latest version of Facebook for Android, and it now includes the ability to delete a comment quite easily and quickly. All you have to do is tap the comment you wish to remove, then tap Delete Comment. What could be easier?

One would think that including the ability to delete unwanted comments would have been included in the app from the get-go, but it wasn’t. Go figure. Better late than never I suppose.

You can download the latest version of Facebook for Android from the Google Play Store.

How to set up ‘Trusted Contacts’ for your Facebook account as an additional security option

Posted on May 10, 2013

Facebook has added another option for regaining access to your account should you ever forget your password and not be able to reset it for some reason.

Now you can designate up to five of your Facebook Friends as “Trusted Contacts”, each of whom will receive a security code from Facebook on your behalf after you click on the “Forgot your password?” link.

After you collect the security codes from three of your five trusted friends, you can enter them on the Password Reset screen and then choose a new password.  [Read more…]

How to block your name from being used with Facebook Social Ads

Posted on March 17, 2013

facebook-logoIf you’ve been on Facebook recently you might have noticed your name being used in one of Facebook’s new “Social Ads”. It usually looks something like “Rick Rouse likes AT&T” in close proximity to an ad for the AT&T Facebook page.

Basically, they’re promoting a page that you have “Liked” to your friends with the hope that your friends will take notice and visit the page.  Personally, I don’t mind my friends knowing which pages I have “Liked”, but I’m not too fond of having that info used in conjunction with an ad!

If seeing your name used as part of an ad irritates you as much as it does me, you can easily opt out. Here’s how:  [Read more…]
