How to quickly eliminate Facebook’s most irritating annoyances

Posted on March 21, 2023

Do you use Facebook on a laptop or desktop computer?

If so, you’re probably familiar with one or more of these common annoyances:

  • You keep seeing the same ads over and over again, many (or even most) of which might even be scams
  • Political posts (and the arguments they generate) get your blood boiling
  • You receive an important message from someone who isn’t on your friends list but Facebook hides it from you by placing it in the “New Message Requests” folder
  • One of your Facebook friends “unfriends” you but you don’t find out about it until much later because Facebook didn’t let you know that your friend had unfriended you

All of these annoyances (and many more) have irritated me at one time or another, and I’m guessing they’ve irritated you as well.  [Read more…]

Scam alert: Beware this ‘Free Buffalo Wild Wings Gift Card’ scam

Posted on March 17, 2023

The scammers never seem to take a break from Facebook, and right now they’re targeting folks who enjoy eating at Buffalo Wild Wings.

This is simply a new take on the ubiquitous “free gift card” scams that are always popping up on Facebook.

I’d just like to know if she’s receiving my friend requests. Can you tell me how to check? [Read more…]

Facebook is all about interacting with your friends, but there are times when it’s best to keep your list of Facebook friends hidden from public view.

For example, if you’re looking for a job, you might want to hide your friend list from prospective employers in order to prevent any possibility of “guilt by association”.

Note: I’m not trying to disparage your friends here, just remind you that you never know who might be holding a grudge against one of your other Facebook friends.

And here’s another reason…  [Read more…]

Q&A: How do I display my maiden name on Facebook?

Posted on March 2, 2023

Question from Peggy:  I know my question will probably make me sound dumb but I have to ask it anyway.

Several old friends from my school days had trouble finding me on Facebook because they were searching for my maiden name.

How do I add my maiden name to my Facebook profile but have it separate from my married name? In other words display my married name like it is now with my maiden name underneath it?
