How to “roll back” your Windows 10 installation to Windows 7 after 30 days

Did you update your PC from Windows 7 to Windows 10 only to decide later that you’d like to go back to Window 7?

As you probably know, you can easily roll your Windows 10 installation back to Windows 7 if you want to, but there’s a catch…

You’ll only have 30 days to roll your system back to Windows 7 if you decide that you don’t want Windows 10.

If you wait longer than a month your computer’s original Windows 7 license will be permanently assigned to your new Windows 10 installation.

That being said, if you have already missed the 30 day roll-back window you can still install Windows 7 onto your machine, but it’ll cost you a few bucks.  [Read more…]

Well, Windows 10 has been out for about nine months now, and I must say that the more I use it, the more I like it. I truly believe it’s the best version of Windows that Microsoft has ever produced.

Still running QuickTime for Windows on your PC? You need to remove it ASAP.

quicktime-logoA couple of well-respected online security firms have reported that there are at least two critical security holes in the latest version of Apple’s QuickTime media player.

What’s more, Apple has reportedly told those firms that QuickTime will be deprecated (aka abandoned) in the very near future so they won’t be releasing any new security patches for it.

How to prevent Windows 10 from automatically downloading Windows Updates

disable-automatic-windows-updates-windows-10In case you haven’t noticed, Microsoft really wants your PC to download and install all available Windows Updates automatically.

Personally, I don’t mind that because I always keep a current backup of my PC’s hard drive on hand in case something goes wrong.

But that being said, I know that plenty of other folks prefer having Windows simply notify them that updates are ready, then download and install them manually at a time of their choosing. I totally understand that.

If you happen to prefer downloading and installing your Windows Updates manually, you can easily force Windows 10 to accept your decision and give you that freedom. Just follow the instructions below:  [Read more…]
