Great news: Apple has reversed their de facto ban on third-party repairs of Apple devices.

Posted on September 1, 2019

It’s no secret that Apple has always opposed allowing third-party repair shops to service Apple products.

As a result, third-party shops weren’t allowed to use genuine Apple parts, which meant they either had to use often inferior after-market replacement parts or buy genuine Apple OEM parts from the gray market.

As you might expect, a third-party repair would also void the device’s warranty.

And to top it all off, just last month Apple released a firmware update for iOS devices that refused to show new batteries that had been installed by third-party techs as “healthy” even when they were brand new genuine Apple batteries that had been obtained on the gray market.

After taking an incredible amount of heat over the new battery policy, Apple has now reversed course by announcing a new program under which authorized third-party repair shops can now fix Apple products using genuine Apple parts that are provided directly by Apple.

Review: CSS Hero – Easily customize your WordPress blog even if you’re clueless about working with CSS

Posted on September 1, 2019

Do you have a blog that’s powered by WordPress?

If so, you probably know that WordPress is the most powerful and most customizable blogging platform there is.

By selecting a quality theme and customizing it to your liking you can give your blog its own distinctive look and feel – in other words, give it its own personality.

The thing is, to really customize all the various aspects of your blog’s theme you’ll need to make changes to its style.css file.

In a nutshell, the style.css file contains the Cascading Style Sheet (aka CSS) code that controls virtually every aspect of how your blog will look and respond to visitors when they arrive at one of the pages on your blog.

The following short snippet from this blog’s style.css file will give you an idea of what I’m talking about:  [Read more…]

Every time I try to save the photo I get the following error message:

“You don’t have permission to save in this location.

Contact the administrator to obtain permission.

Would you like to save in the Pictures folder instead?”

Here’s a screenshot of the actual error message: [Read more…]

Posted on August 19, 2019

(#ad)

You probably already know that Amazon (#ad) is the world’s largest book retailer by far, but did you also know that you can buy or rent your textbooks from them as well.

You’ll find most any textbook you need at Amazon, and you can probably snag it for a lot less than your own school will charge you for it.

All you have to do is search for the book’s Title, Author or ISBN number and you’ll be presented with a list of both new and used copies along with their prices.  [Read more…]

Scam alert: Don’t buy a ‘cookie cutter’ Amazon affiliate website

Posted on August 18, 2019

scamIf you’ve been using the Internet for a while you’re probably aware of the fantastic Amazon Associates affiliate program that allows bloggers to earn money by helping folks find great deals on items at the Amazon website.

In my opinion, there is no better affiliate program in the world because Amazon makes it easy to earn commissions on great products that most buyers end up loving in the end.

That’s why I participate in the program myself.

Unfortunately, any time a company comes up with a great idea for helping people do better in life, there are always scammers waiting in the wings to take advantage of people who just want to make an honest living.  [Read more…]
