Opinion: The FBI shouldn’t be doing this…

Posted on September 27, 2020

Have you ever taken your computer into Best Buy to have their “Geek Squad” crew check it out and repair it if needed?

If so, the computer technician who worked on your machine probably searched your hard drive to see if there was any child pornography on it.

And guess what? Had they found some the FBI would likely have paid them to turn you in.

Q&A: Can I bookmark the ‘Downloads’ folder in all of my web browsers?

Posted on September 26, 2020

Question from Lacie R.:  Hi Rick. This might seem like a crazy situation to you, but I use three different web browsers, all at the same time: Firefox for Facebook, Chrome for Gmail and Microsoft Edge for everything else.

The problem I have is remembering how to find the downloads folder for each browser.

Is there any way to bookmark the Downloads folders in my browsers so I can open them really fast and without having to think about it lol? Thanks!

Q&A: Is there any way to recover a Microsoft Word file that I closed without saving it?

Posted on September 26, 2020

Question from Anita:  Hi Rick. I hope you don’t think I’m a stupid person after reading this, because I’m really not. I prefer to say I’m “spacey” lol.

Anyway, I have an unfortunate tendency to click “Don’t Save” instead of “Save” when I finish working on a document in Microsoft Word. I know, it’s a stupid thing to do but it just sort of happens before I even realize it.

Is there a way to recover a Word file that I neglected to save? Thanks in advance for your help!

Warning: Check for the dangerous LokiBot malware ASAP!

Posted on September 25, 2020

Unfortunately, viruses and other nasty forms of malware are constant threats in today’s Internet-connected world.

If your computer is connected to the web, you can safely assume that it’s being bombarded with attacks at all times.

Luckily, most modern antivirus programs are pretty effective at keeping most of the nasties off your system, but every once in a while something malicious will slip through their defenses.

The latest malware to hit the scene is called LokiBot, and it’s one of the most dangerous keyloggers ever.
