Regular readers of this blog know I’m a huge fan of free software because I routinely recommend the use of freeware whenever possible to accomplish whatever the task at hand may be.

But as you probably also know there can be hidden dangers lurking behind the scenes every time you install a piece of free software.

The dangers range all the way from the installation of unwanted add-on software to installing viruses and other forms of malware right along with the programs themselves.

Q&A: How can I quickly see what time it is in a foreign country?

Question from Glenda:  My son accepted a job in Brisbane, Australia and he now lives there.

My problem is I seem to wake him up every time I call him. I guess I’m horrible with time zones.

How to force your Facebook group to show the newest posts first

By default, Facebook doesn’t show the posts in a group with the newest posts at the top of the feed.

Instead, they start off with the posts that Facebook’s algorithm has deemed to be the most relevant.

Speaking strictly for myself, I prefer seeing the posts displayed in reverse order, with the newest post at the top and the oldest post at the bottom.  [Read more…]

Question from Anita:  I’m planning to buy a new laptop to replace the one I have now. It has never performed well so I’d like to try a different brand.

I’ve been asking around about recommendations for a good brand, and most people seem to like either Dell or HP. The problem is there doesn’t seem to be a consensus.
