Today’s featured tech tip….

Why you should only download apps from an official app store

If you have an iPhone you’re probably used to downloading and installing apps from Apple’s official App Store.

Likewise, if you’re an Android user you probably download your apps from the Google Play Store.

If you’re ever tempted to download an app from any third-party app store or download site, I strongly recommend that you reconsider.

Although the official app stores are far from perfect and malicious apps do slip through Apple and Google’s extensive screening processes on occasion, they actually do a pretty good job overall at ensuring the apps you install from their repositories are safe.

Unfortunately, the same can’t be said about the third-party app sites.

If you take the security of your devices and your personal and financial information seriously, do yourself a favor and limit your downloads to just the official Apple and/or Google app stores.

As they always say, better safe than sorry. After all, when it comes to smartphone apps, just one bad app can ruin your entire day (and maybe even your entire financial life).

While “bad” apps certainly can and do make their way into Apple’s and Google’s app stores, the odds of you downloading one from a third-party repository are exponentially higher.
