Today’s quick tech tip….

Why you should ask permission before sending a link via Messenger

Do you get a little uneasy when someone sends you a link from out of the blue on Facebook Messenger?

Well, you probably should because hackers and scammers are using Messenger to send malicious links to anyone and everyone they can mange to gain access to.

Well guess what? Your friends and relatives on Facebook probably get that same uneasy feeling when links show up announced in their inboxes as well.

That’s why it’s a good idea to contact the person ahead of time and let them know you have a link you’d like for them to visit.

Explain what the link is to and why you think they might find it useful or funny. And be sure to add some little tidbit of unrelated info that your friend knows that only you would know. That will let them know that you are really you and not some hacker who has taken over your account.

These days links that arrive unannounced are almost always deep-sixed immediately, and for good reason.

Reassuring the intended recipient in advance will allow them to lower their guard so they can comfortably click/tap on your link.

Just make sure the link is completely legitimate and safe before you send it. If a link you send ends up “burning” someone even once, they’ll never trust anything you send them again.
