Today’s quick tech tip….

Here’s the fastest way to open the Windows Settings app

Many of the Windows tips I post require use of the Settings app. It’s nothing short of amazing how many tweaks you can make from within that one simple app.

Every time I post a tip that uses the Settings app I start off by giving simple instructions for opening it. They usually go like this:

Right-click on the Start button and select Settings from the menu.

And voilà – there it is.

I recently received an email from a perceptive reader reminding me that there’s an even faster way to open the Settings app, and he’s right. There is…

All you have to do is press the Windows+I key combination and it’ll pop right up.

But as I explained to him, there’s a reason why I always explain the “Right-Click on Start and then select Settings” method: It’s easier for the average user to remember.

While keyboard shortcuts are amazingly handy (and I recommend them often), most Windows users are better acquainted with Start button.

In a nutshell, all someone needs to remember is to right-click the Start button instead of left-clicking it and a link to the Settings app will be right there on the resulting menu.

Of course I didn’t write this as a slight to the perceptive reader who sent me that friendly reminder. I love getting constructive feedback like that.

And guess what? He was absolutely right about Windows+I being a bit faster than the Start button method.

Now you know at least two ways to open the Settings app (there are actually several more). Feel free to choose the one that suits you best.
