Why you shouldn’t keep tons of photos on your phone
If you’re like most smartphone owners you probably have hundreds of photos stored on your phone.
While it’s nice to be able to whip out your phone and show someone the latest photos of the kids/grandkids, it’s really best to limit the number of photos that reside on your phone to a bare minimum.
Why? Two reasons:
1 – If you lose your phone, if someone steals it or if you drop it and it breaks into a zillion pieces, your photos could well be gone for good.
And depending on how long you’ve had your phone and how many pictures you take, they could easily number in the thousands. That’s a lot of photos to lose in one fell swoop.
Of course if your phone is syncing your files with a cloud storage service such as iCloud or Google Photos you could probably retrieve your photos from there if that need ever arises. But as with all things digital, there are never any guarantees.
2 – Tons of photos take up tons of storage space, leaving less room for apps and operating system ‘breathing room’.
That means you might find yourself unable to install new apps and/or figure out why your phone is running as slow as molasses at 30 below zero.
Bottom line: If the photos on your phone are really precious to you (and they probably are), I strongly recommend that you copy them off the phone onto your computer AND upload them to cloud storage, then delete the ones you don’t anticipate showing to your friend next time you get together.
