Today’s featured tech tip….

Looking for a monitor with a wide viewing angle? Look for this…

Have you ever noticed that some monitors are difficult to see clearly unless you’re looking almost directly at them?

Those monitors are fine as long as you’re only going to be viewing them straight-on, but they’re pretty close to useless in situations where one or more people need to view them from an angle.

If wide viewing angles are important to you there’s one designation you need to look for when shopping for your next monitor…

In-Plane Switching (IPS) refers to the way the crystals in a Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) screen are arranged.

If a monitor has the words In-Plane Switching and/or the acronym IPS in its name or description you can count in it providing for wider than normal viewing angles.

Of course the range of the supported viewing angles vary even among IPS monitors, which means you’ll need to read the item description to determine the actual supported viewing angles for every monitor you’re considering.

But that being said, most any monitor with the In-Plane Switching and/or IPS designation should provide a nice wide-angle viewing experience compared to non-IPS monitors.

Note: Some manufacturers use the designations Plane-to-Line Switching and/or PLS to refer to this technology. Just remember that IPS and PLS both designate monitors with wide viewing angles.
