How to clear the site data for a problem website in Chrome
Note: The procedure below only applies to the desktop Chrome browser on a laptop or desktop computer and not the Chrome app on a mobile device.
Every now and then you might visit a web page that causes problems for you.
These problem pages can be a real nuisance, and oftentimes the only way to clear the issue up is to delete the browser history by clearing its cache and cookies.
The thing is, clearing the browser’s global cache and cookies will wipe out the site data for every website you’ve visited, not just the one that’s causing the problem. And of course that means you’ll be automatically logged out of every site you’re currently logged into.
But you can avoid that situation if you’re using Google Chrome because you can easily clear the site data just for that one problem website without affecting any other websites. Here’s how:
1 – With a page from the problem site displayed in your browser, click the Customize and control icon in the top-right corner of the Chrome window (it looks like three vertical dots).
2 – Click More tools, then select Developer tools. You should now see a new panel displaying the source code of the page.
3 – Select the Application tab from the new panel’s top menu bar (if you don’t see Application, click the double arrows to display the rest of the tabs.
4 – In the left-hand pane of the new panel, click Storage.
5 – In the right-hand pane of the new panel, check all the boxes for the various options, then click the Clear site data button.
6 – Click the X in the top-right corner of the new panel to close it.
That’s all there is to it. All the site data that Chrome has collected and stored for the problem website is now gone and you’re logged out of that site if you were previously logged into it.
You can now close that tab and get on with visiting other websites.
