Why you might want to replace an older router that’s still working
If you have an older router that’s still working you might be tempted to just keep using it till it eventually goes belly-up.
But truth be told, you might want to consider replacing it right now instead.
Why? Well, there are several reasons why a new router just might be a great investment:
1 – Newer AC and AX-class routers provide much faster, and more stable Wi-FI and wired Ethernet connections than older N-class routers.
That means you might be able to reduce or eliminate annoying buffering while you’re streaming your favorite movies and TV shows, especially if you stream with multiple devices.
2 – Newer routers allow you to use more devices simultaneously without reducing the bandwidth that’s provided to each of the individual devices.
3 – Newer routers have stronger built-in security than the ones that were manufactured just a few short years ago.
4 – Newer routers are better equipped to work with today’s faster Internet speeds and the modern modems that connect your home to the Internet at large.
5 – Newer routers are more dependable, reducing the risk that a hardware failure will knock you and your family offline until you have a chance to replace the broken router.
Bottom line: While there’s no pressing need to replace an older router with one that’s newer, faster and more secure, it’ something that I believe deserves careful consideration.
