Today’s featured tech tip….

How (and why) to force Windows 11 to show file extensions in File Explorer

By default, Windows 11 hides the file extensions of any filenames that are displayed inside a File Explorer window.

Personally, I prefer to have file extensions displayed for several reasons, including the very important one mentioned in this post.

If you prefer being able to see file extensions as well you can easily force Windows 11 to display them. Just follow these steps:

1 – Press the Windows+E key combination to open a File Explorer window.

2 – Click the View link on the top menu bar.

3 – Click Show.

4 – Click on File name extensions to enable their view (a checkmark should appear after you click on it).

That’s all there is to it. From now on you’ll be able to see the file extensions whenever you’re viewing a list of files in File Explorer.
