Today’s featured tech tip….

Be sure to protect your IP security camera(s) with a password

IP security cameras are among the hottest selling devices on the market these days.

Unfortunately, many consumers don’t realize that connecting a camera to the Internet without protecting it with a password leaves it wide open to snoops, hackers, stalkers and even burglars.

Many cameras come with the password option completely disabled by default, and the ones that come with it enabled typically have a factory default password on them that any experienced hacker can retrieve via a simple Google search.

IP cameras are being exploited daily to snoop on families, ‘case’ homes for burglary and a wide variety of other malicious activities.

There is even a popular search engine (which I won’t link to) dedicated to Internet-connected devices that can help hackers, snoops and burglars locate IP cameras and other IoT devices to exploit over the Internet.

Bottom line: If you value your family’s privacy and security, be sure to protect all of your Internet-connected devices with a strong password.

It isn’t enough just to have a strong password on your WiFi network. It’s also extremely important to password-protect all of the individual devices that are connected to it.
