How to retrieve a forgotten WiFi password from a Windows PC

A while back I wrote this post explaining how to retrieve a forgotten WiFi password from a PC running Windows 10.

I have received several requests for help with retrieving the password from Windows 11 machines since the procedure is quite different than the one used for Windows 10.

If you ever forget the password to your WiFi network you can easily retrieve it from any Windows 11 PC that’s currently connected to that network by following the steps below:

1 – Right-click the Start button and select Settings from the menu.

2 – In the left-hand pane, click Network & Internet.

3 – In the right-hand pane, click Advanced network settings.

4 – Scroll down and click More network adapter options. A new “Network Connections” dialog box should pop up.

5 – Right-click on the active WiFi connection and then select Status from the drop-down menu.

6 – Click the Wireless Properties button.

7 – Select the Security tab.

8 – Click Show characters to reveal the hidden password.

That’s all there is to it. Now you know how to retrieve a forgotten WiFi password from any Windows 11 PC that’s currently connected to that network.

Rick’s Daily Pick…

SadoTech Wireless Doorbell

Are you looking for a simple old-style doorbell that serves as just a doorbell, and nothing else?

This little gem of a kit from SadoTech is ridiculously easy to install. Simply install the battery in the doorbell button unit and plug the receiver into any electrical outlet inside your home or office.

That’s it – no running wires or programming of the device (other than optionally choosing a different ring chime). It really couldn’t be simpler.
