Monday, July 10, 2023 – Using Gmail for a business email address – How to place a folder on the Windows Desktop

If you have a Windows PC you’re probably very familiar with folders.

In a nutshell, a folder is simply a named storage container in which you can store photos and other types of files for easy and fast access when you need them.

We usually access the files in our folders either directly via File Explorer or indirectly via an associated program or app.

You most likely know all of that already, but here’s something you might not know…

Folders can also reside on the Windows Desktop where they’re always accessible without having to open File Explorer or an app first.

If you’d like to enjoy the convenience of accessing a favorite folder right from the Desktop, just follow the steps below.

To create a brand new folder on the Desktop:

1 – Right-click on an empty area of the Desktop.

2 – Click New > Folder.

You should now see the new folder displayed on the Desktop with its default filename highlighted in blue.

3 – Type a descriptive name for the folder and then press the Enter key.

That’s all there is to creating a brand new folder right on your PC’s Desktop.

To move an existing folder from its current location to the Desktop:

1 – Press the Windows+E key combination to open a File Explorer window.

2 – Navigate to the folder you want to move to the Desktop, then click on it and drag it onto the Desktop.

3 – Release the mouse button to place the folder in its new location on the Desktop.

That’s all there is to it. Whether you created a brand new folder or moved an existing folder onto the Desktop, you can now access the files in that folder simply by clicking on the folder while you’re viewing the Desktop.
