Today’s quick tech tip….

How to unfreeze a frozen Taskbar in Windows 11

I’ve received several reports from readers that the latest round of Windows updates is causing the Taskbar to randomly freeze up on Windows 11 PCs.

It appears that this isn’t a very wide-spread issue, but it can be a big one if you happen to be one of the unlucky few who are affected by it.

Hopefully Microsoft will find out what’s going on and fix this ASAP, but until then there’s an easy fix you can try if it ever happens to you: Simply open the Task Manager and use it to restart Windows Explorer. Here’s how:

1 – Press the Ctrl+Shift+Esc key combination to open the Task Manager.

2 – Make sure the Processes tab is selected, then scroll down to the “Windows processes” and find Windows Explorer.

3 – Right-click on Windows Explorer and select Restart from the menu.

The Windows Explorer process should now shut down and restart, resetting the Taskbar (and removing the “freeze” in the process).
