Try this first if a newly-installed program doesn’t work as expected

Posted on March 4, 2024

The Internet has forever changed the way we acquire new software to run on our computers and mobile devices.

Gone are the days when we had to visit a retail store and buy a disk.

Now all we have to do is perform a quick Google search to find what we’re looking for and then click “Download” and install it.

But even though it’s easier than ever to find and download useful new software, things still go wrong during the installation process on occasion.

Note: The links in this post are affiliate links.

Question from Patsy: My friend just bought a Chromebook after the salesman at the computer store told her they are safer to use than Windows computers.

Q&A: How do I clean up and optimize an older PC?

Posted on February 7, 2024

Question from Vicky: I got my old laptop out of the closet this morning to see if it still works. I’ve forgotten exactly how old it is but it’s running windows 10.

It finally booted up into Windows but it seemed to be running very sluggish.

Do you have any suggestions for cleaning up and optimizing an older computer?  [Read more…]

Posted on December 11, 2023

Question from Eric:  My laptop’s Power button is located on the keyboard and it looks just like a regular key. Just about every time I start typing I accidentally hit the Power button and it shuts the machine down.

No matter how hard I try to remember not to touch the Power button, I end up doing it anyway.

I know how to shut the computer down with the mouse so I don’t really need to use the Power button at all once the laptop has booted into Windows. Is there any way to disable it?  [Read more…]
